myResponder is a crucial mobile application designed to enable community-first responders to effectively assist in cardiac arrest emergencies within their vicinity. Once registered, alerts of cardiac arrest cases occurring within 400 meters of the registered location are provided, enabling swift action to offer potentially life-saving aid.
Upon receiving a notification, a user has the option to engage and assist the individual in distress. Directions to the exact location of the incident and the display of available Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are conveniently provided by the app, which are vital in reviving the patient. Should the responder reach the patient, they can administer CPR or use an AED as instructed by the person who reported the case. The platform may also enable responders to assist the ambulance crew by guiding them to the site.
To become part of this life-saving network, eligible individuals should be at least 15 years of age and possess a SingPass ID and password, along with a mobile phone number for emergency contact purposes. Those under 18 years old require parental consent.
The response provided is voluntary; the platform emphasizes safety and recommends responding only when it is practical and safe to do so. Critical features include geolocation notifications, OneMap integration showing nearby incidents and AEDs, and quick dialing to emergency services, all of which combine to make this a seamless tool in emergency response.
This initiative represents a significant contribution by the Singapore Civil Defence Force, enhancing the nation’s emergency preparedness by integrating technology with community involvement. While engaging with it, users become part of a broader effort to save lives, making it a highly commendable contribution to public welfare.
